About him
Not your average 73-year-old widower! I'm fit and very active. I enjoy running (I'm an England Athletics-licensed Leader in Running Fitness), hiking, singing, campervanning, playing the ukulele (OK) and the piano (badly). And now they've opened a gym 200 yards from my house I've started using that! I'm told I'm very down-to-earth, independent, determined, and dependable. When not getting distracted leading walking tours in the Alps, my working life has been spent in biomedical research and teaching, and I'm still a part-time university lecturer. I've lived and worked in Europe, so am pro-European. I'm very family-oriented, and care for my younger grandson one day each week. I'm a very tactile person, so if you don't like lots of hugs, holding hands in public etc., forget it. I don't do dramas - listening, honesty and compromise are the keys to a calm life. There are a couple of sayings that encapsulate my attitude in some respects: "I'd rather wear my body out than have it rust away from disuse," and "I'd rather die of passion than of boredom."
