In His Own Words

About him

I’ve spent most of my working life designing things, fixing things, making things and latterly teaching people. These days I’m often in galleries and museums, and I’m learning drawing in evening classes — it keeps my hands working and my eyes sharp. i am dyslexic, so i don't play scrabble, ever.

I enjoy music of all sorts, read everything from books to bottle labels, and still shoot 35mm film while it exists. I also repair old clocks, mostly for the satisfaction of restoring a complex mechanism.

I don’t smoke, drink, gamble or follow football. I cook well enough to keep myself going — my porridge has been described as an angel’s kiss on the lips, my custard is beyond comment.

I’m easy‑going and low‑maintenance, and I’d feel most at ease with someone steady, warm, and curious about the world. Chemistry between people matters more than perfection.

About his ideal match

This site calls itself “science‑orientated”; my experience suggests it’s more arts‑adjacent enthusiasm with occasional reading. I’m 5'7", fully grown, and — as D’Arcy Wentworth Thompson would remind us — subject to standard scaling.

I’m under no illusion that an “ideal woman” can be modularised like an Airfix™ kit (though they’d sell very well), but curiosity, analytical interest in most things, tolerance, better spelling than mine, and a willingness to be physically present go a long way.

After meeting several very nice ladies here, I’ve identified a few personal deal‑breakers: very prominent facial tattoos; arrays of metal body inserts; an irrational fear of mathematics beyond arithmetic; surd‑phobia; and treating any dog / cat / pet as a full‑time child substitute, complete with the self-title “dog mummy.”

I’m looking for someone genuinely curious — someone who can enjoy Turner without needing the wall text, who can talk ideas without hiding behind buzzwords, and who prefers real conversation to performative personality labels; ideally linear algebra wearing lipstick.

If you like or do science or engineering, enjoy some art, prefer discussions that flow intelligently rather than theatrically, have a photo (or a certificate if you’re a vampire and can't photo ), and live in London, you’re already in the top percentile.
