I'm not obtuse, I'm a cutie! OK, I'm obtuse. I'm not a hostage to it, though...

In His Own Words

About him

More obtuseness below...

So, a uni colleague has told me that I need to be here, and that I should sell myself. Or at least make an impression that leaves the curious even more curious, and curious for more.

What to say? Well, I'm a bit of a gardener, a grower of plants, a sower of seeds. Being a sower seems to define me at the moment - even in the depths of a southern winter, I'm sprouting miracle fruit seeds. There's a row of pots in front of the wood stove and now, after seeds and warmth and lots of patient waiting - voila! - germination! I'm looking forward to finally tasting the fruits of my endeavours, although apparently it'll take a few years before they flower.

Embarrassingly I've never developed the knack of sewing though, so I'm not a sewer. Or perhaps that's not embarrassing after all...

Being sensible for a moment, I have 3 wonderful young kids and a very amicable relationship with their mum, with whom I coparent. Seems to freak some people out, but it's worked wonderfully for us. At least it's out there.

What else? After years of working in scientific research I've shifted to (shudder) admin at my university, but as it's in research services I'm still getting my science fix. And I have so many interests outside of uni that I'm never unfulfilled. And yes, I know that I mistyped my handle but I didn't twig until after it was too late to change! And I don't mind having it pointed out!

I have a great life, full of joy and appreciation. I have worked out I have just about everything I need to move forward - I'm hoping that you have figured out that you do too! :-)

Heh, I'll come back to this tomorrow and rewrite it, when I've revisited my initial impulse to join and thought a bit more carefully about my spiel. This is really just the test pattern to determine whether I can arrive at something comprehensible. And if it appeals to the quirky, well all the better.

About his ideal match

My ideal match? Intelligent, down-to-earth, nature-loving, well-travelled. Given that my location at the belly of the world might mean that conversations have to be long-distance, the well-travelled thing is useful. I guess it's all about geography, and what might be worked out given the hands we're dealt. I'm open minded about chats right across Australia. Perhaps even further abroad? New Zealand? Africa? Yes, Africa... now there's a place - I have ties with Africa. Not big on the cities, but there are some lovely small towns and villages there. Serere is one such, although the climate is a bit warm for my liking. Worth dropping in on though, if you're into international travel.

A few more characteristics to describe my ideal match - I imagine that she might be sensitive (to those around her and to the planet in general), environmentally-minded, reachable (relationships of all types need good communication), enterprising (but not necessarily a heated desire for entrepreneurial business), romantic (I'm a closet one myself, but don't tell my male friends!), egalitarian (especially in a country with the PM with which we are afflicted*).

A Bonny to my Clyde, a Yin to my Yang, a Heckle to my Jeckle, an Eurydice to my Orpheus. I'm tempted to say a Jane to my Tarzan (and not the other way around as I'd originally and inadvertently typed!), but loincloths and vines are probably not my style.

It's been difficult to find everything I seek in one package, but there's a first for everything.

*Newsflash: he's gone, but he's now been replaced by someone just as bad and we're still doing awful things to refugees and pretending that climate change isn't real. Sorry, world.
