About him
Retired twenty-odd years ago from my own business as a professional photographer, I was devastated to lose my wife in October 2005. I'm still not over it yet - but I do miss female company. Although I feel my age physically, I still believe that I function reasonably well mentally. (I can still do cryptic crosswords!)
I've been married twice and have four children. They have, of course, now all left home, and I have seven grandchildren. My tastes in music are broadly catholic, but mainly 'heavy' Classical, (eg Wagner, Bruckner, Mahler, Shostakovich, R Strauss, among many others) but also enjoy C&W, Ol' Blue Eyes, the Beatles, Rock n Roll, New Orleans Jazz and Hootenanny, (the Sixties and Seventies generally) but don't appreciate much current noisy stuff.
Ladies say they have found me considerate and 'gentlemanly'; I certainly try to treat women with great respect.
I have a droll, self-deprecating sort of sense of humour - if you could call it that! I don't tell jokes, and if I did I wouldn't laugh at my own, but I do enjoy good-humoured conversation and try to listen as much as talk! I am very keen to keep abreast of current affairs, and have an inquisitive, although somewhat (some would say, 'extremely') sceptical, and enquiring mind.
I enjoy (watching) most sports - Tennis, Formula1, motorbike racing (especially the IOM TT races, having taken part in the cycle races over the Mountain TT course as a young man), cycle racing (particularly the Tour de France), and English and international football.
I do drive, of course - a little Mercedes (emphasis on the 'little' rather than the 'Mercedes'!) - but don't travel much these days, although I have recently been to Florida (where one of my sons lives with his American wife) on extended holidays, and I occasionally visit my daughter and her family in Coventry. (Thank goodness for SatNav!)
PS Just changed my car - still a Merc, but 'little' is not so apt now!
PPS Changed my car AGAIN! Another Merc, of course.
