In His Own Words
About him
Welcome to my profile.
I am a little nerdy, although not nearly as much as when I carried a briefcase to junior high school, a short-lived practice which landed me in the school dumpster more than once.
I love my careers (practicing medicine, teaching, and working with progressive activist groups, all part-time). I am committed to combating social, economic, and environmental injustices, and hoping to make the world a better place for future generations. I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my nephews and niece. Since I am not signed up on NSC, if you search public health and social justice you will find me.
My parents are my heroes, for the selfless sacrifices they endured to provide me with wonderful opportunities. Time is life's greatest blessing, and my number one priority is to spend it with those whom I love. If I won the lottery, my life would not change much, but after ensuring opportunities for success and financial security for my loved ones, I would give much of my winnings away.
I love to read (favorites are Jayber Crow, by Wendell Berry; David Copperfield by Dickens; A Prayer for Owen Meany, by Irving; and journals
- Smithsonian to Scientific American). Favorite movies are Constant Gardener, Shawshank Redemption, Atonement, The Mission, and Cinema Paradiso. I am very active, delight in nature, and exercise most days.
I enjoy world travel, from the beaches of Hawaii to the Australian Outback to small European towns, but by the same token like to spend some evenings in with a good meal, a fire, nice music, and an interesting book.
I feel pride in having raised my adopted daughter from her early teens into adulthood. She is 25 and lives independently. Raising her was the most meaningful, wonderful thing I have ever done. I am also now a single father of a newborn infant. I love children and would like to create a family with my partner (possibly with more biological and/or adopted children).
Thanks for reading.
About his ideal match
I am looking for friendship leading to a long-term relationship. I seek an intellectual, yet down to earth, compassionate woman who is devoted to her family and friends, feels passionately about her work and hobbies, is healthy and physically active, and has a quirky, or even sarcastic sense of humor; someone who relishes conversation and friendly debate about myriad issues, political and philosophical, and can laugh at the absurd; someone who relishes the teamwork, emotional support, and comfortable silences that are the rewards of a close friendship and loving relationship.
