About him
If you want someone who is genuine, loyal, responsible (when it matters), considerate, sensitive, intelligent, practical and a bit of a romantic, then I may just be of interest to you.
I love life, people (all sorts), music (all sorts), humour, comedy, absurdities, a good read, time with friends or family, science, art, architecture, technical stuff (but not boys' toys), sailing (no I don't own a boat, ship, yacht or gin palace - sorry!) and flying (light aircraft and no, I don't have one of these either!).
What makes life really special is being able to share things with someone special, not just the good things but the challenging stuff as well. After all, real life is a mixture of both. I am extremely optimistic without being unrealistic, can be determined about things that matter. It is essential in a relationship that each partner has individual as well as shared interests, complementing each other in terms of strengths and abilities, but most of all respecting each other because, without that, there can be no true friendship.
I can be a very good friend but make a poor enemy because, quite frankly, I can't be bothered with the revenge bit. If someone can't treat me decently they need to be avoided and don't deserve my time anyway.
My sense of humour is sometimes very corny and at other times a bit wicked, but never unkind. It's really not my fault - I blame my father and Spike Milligan! I also thank them both. Humour and fun is very important.
I enjoy the company of others but am quite content with my own. I have enough interests for several lifetimes and my work to keep me busy - I simply cannot remember the last time I felt bored.
If you are a materialist then I may not suit you at all. I like "stuff" as much as the next person and enjoy owning/using nice things but no inanimate object is more valuable than good people.

My ideal partner will:-
- be intelligent and at least moderately educated, with or without credentials (what's in your head is more important than what's on a piece of paper)
- have a variety of interests some of which will be special to you and some we will share, such as some science or technology topics
- be passionate about things that are important to you
- be able to discuss and engage in intelligent argument about most things while respecting differences of belief and opinion
- avoid subscribing to the "blame" culture by acknowledging mistakes when appropriate with the sole objective of finding and implementing a solution
in the knowledge that your partner will do his utmost to do the same
- be fairly relaxed about yourself (nerves to begin with are ok but if you are really self-confident that's ok too)
- have a good sense of humour and patience for those with a corny one (like me!)
- have a strong sense of honesty, honour and justice
- be happy to engage (time and other commitments permitting) in some outdoor activities, evenings out at a concert, film or show, eating out, cooking/eating in (I like cooking and entertaining), but also the occasional evening in just relaxing
- be at least a little bit romantic
