Carpe diem - as long as it's not too outrageous. However, after all these years of living alone (dog & cat nothwithstanding) too close to the sun & imbibing red wine most Saturday evenings, people probably view me as slightly eccentric!
I have recently had a change of career - from educational management into private equity investment in corporate farming - what a learning curve! The downside of this move is that my once fairly hectic social life up in the Tz highlands has dried up. A bit of a shock to the system, leaving me on my own far more than I was used to. This certainly needs a good sense of humour and a need to live by the Monty Python mantra "Always look on the bright side of life".
Most of my friends would say that I'm good at identifying positives and dealing rationally with negatives, and have my feet firmly planted on planet earth. I suppose that's why I've survived so long in Africa.
My job is full time job plus, but do get time off for good behaviour, during which time I read, walk through the African bush with my dog, play golf (badly & with no hope of improvement) & squash (just about these days) and socialise. With the invention of the Kindle, my bedside Everest has shrunk in height yet expanded in choice.
Although my life seems full, I do miss having someone around to share the good times (& bad) and to discuss the ways of the world & put it to rights, even though I realize that this would have to be initially through email and Skype.
